Jesse Johnson: “Verbal Penetration”

If you are a fan of REAL music–meaning real MUSICIANSHIP–you owe it to yourself to check out the latest release from Jesse Johnson, “Verbal Penetration”.  Jesse is probably best known for his work as lead guitarist for The Time.  But don’t sleep– Jesse is an accomplished writer, recording artist, and producer in his own right, having worked with artists like Janet Jackson and several others.

Listening to “Verbal Penetration” is like listening to the best of the Minneapolis sound from yesteryear AND an unofficial resurgence of the neo soul sound made popular by artists like D’Angelo, Raphael Saddiq, etc.  An homage to Curtis Mayfield and Sly Stone and were also noted.  Above all, I was pleasantly surprised at the effort put forth by Jesse on the vocal level. 

Enough reading.  Go get penetrated.  Verbally, that is.
